The Site Is Empty. The Link Is What You Are Actually Selling.

A monitored site is a promise that somebody sees it. Between the fence and that promise sit three things: a camera, a power source and a radio link. The weakest of the three sets the service level, and on a remote site it is almost always the link.

At head height a modem antenna competes with everything standing on the ground. Parked vehicles, stacked pallets, containers, hedgerows, the site cabin that arrived last week. Signal that read as workable at midday on an empty plot behaves differently once the plot fills up, and the client never hears about it until an operator reports a dropped stream. Six metres up the antenna clears most of that clutter, and it sits on the same mast as the camera it serves.

Power is the other half of the same problem. Detector activated CCTV wakes on an event and sleeps in between. Remote CCTV monitoring transmits, and transmission is a continuous load on a location that has no socket within four hundred metres. That single difference decides whether a deployment lasts a weekend or a year, and it belongs in the platform choice rather than in the post mortem.

Remote monitoring is a live link before it is anything else, and ground level is where a cellular link quietly degrades. The mast top carries the antenna next to the camera, six metres above the vehicles and the stacked material, with dual cabling running inside the mast to an IP66 patch box.

Every False Activation Is a Paid Operator Minute

A monitored site is costed per event, and a camera that moves in the wind reads as motion at three in the morning. Analytics handle the software half. Four stainless steel 316 stay cables and four extendable stabilisers handle the mechanical half, so the operator is looking at movement on the ground rather than movement of the mast.

Continuous Transmission Is a Power Budget

How the platform connects to the monitoring you already run, what happens when the signal drops, and how long a monitored deployment lasts without mains power.

Yes, and that is the point of the model. The platform ships without cameras, sensors, recorders or antennas, so your VMS, your analytics and your alarm receiving centre stay exactly as they are. Vollmergruppe in Germany runs 45 units into their own TUV and VdS certified control room. If you do not operate a control room yourself, your integrator or monitoring partner connects it the same way they connect a fixed site.

A dropped link is the single most common failure in remote CCTV monitoring, and most of it is caused by an antenna sitting at ground level behind vehicles, containers and stacked material. Mounting the antenna at the mast top removes most of that interference before it starts. Beyond that it is a design question for your integrator: on-board recording so nothing is lost during an outage, dual SIM across two networks, or a point to point link to a platform with better coverage. The platform gives all three somewhere to live.

In the UK, BS 8418 covers the installation and remote monitoring of detector activated CCTV and was revised in 2021 after nearly two decades unchanged, with video verification as the route to a police Unique Reference Number. BS 9518:2021 covers how an alarm receiving centre processes those signals, and EN 50518:2019+A1:2023 sets the requirements for the centre itself. Those apply to the monitoring chain rather than to the mast, but they shape what your client asks for. On the platform side the file is CE certification by TUV Rheinland, ISO 9001 and ANSI.

Usually, on cover per euro, and the gap widens on locations that need eyes at night but not hands. Be careful with headline percentages though, including ours: the real comparison depends on shift patterns, response distance, how many sites one operator can hold and what the client is contractually owed.
