Most terrain was secured around its entrance. A camera on the gate, a barrier, a light above the door. The risk sits somewhere else: the 1,300 ft of fence behind the material store, the service road nobody drives at night, the corner where the ground drops away and the floodlight stops.

Fixed infrastructure struggles on that stretch. Trenching power and data to a far corner costs weeks, a contractor and often a permit. And when the site changes, when the build moves to the next phase or the stock is restacked, the camera is aimed at the place the risk used to be. Most perimeter security systems are designed for a boundary that never moves.

Perimeter security on that stretch has to arrive on a trailer, stand the same afternoon, and move again when the threat picture moves. That is a different requirement from a camera on a pole, and it is the requirement this platform was built around.

Video analytics need a downward viewing angle to separate a person from the ground behind them. AXIS Perimeter Defender specifies a minimum mounting height of 13 ft for detection at 650 ft and 20 ft at 1,600 ft. That is a platform specification long before it is a camera specification.

A Still Mast Top Means Fewer False Alarms

Camera shake reads as motion, and motion at three in the morning reads as an intruder. Four stainless steel 316 stay cables with hydraulically pressed clamps hold the mast top in place, and four extendable stabilisers with an integrated spirit level hold the base.

Common questions about perimeter security platforms

How many platforms a perimeter needs, what actually keeps false alarms down, and how the platform connects to the monitoring you already run.

There is no honest single number, and any perimeter security systems quoted by fence length alone are worth a second look. Coverage depends on the camera, the lens, the analytics and what the terrain does to the sight line. IEC 62676-4 sets 6 pixels per foot as the quality class for detection, and that figure against your fence length is what decides the count. A site survey answers it properly. A number over the phone usually costs someone money later.

Two things do the work and only one of them is software. Object based analytics from your camera or analytics partner separate a person from a fox or a moving branch. The platform handles the mechanical half: four stainless steel 316 stay cables and four stabilisers keep the mast top still, so the analytics are not reacting to the camera itself moving in the wind. In the UK that matters commercially as well, because police response is withdrawn after three false calls in a rolling twelve months.

The platform does. Detection performance is down to what you mount on it. Thermal imagers pick up heat differences in darkness, fog and rain and are the usual choice for perimeter intrusion detection after dark, with radar holding up where cameras start to lose range. Published detection distances assume clear conditions, so treat manufacturer figures as a ceiling rather than a promise.
