The Challenge

The Christmas Market in Halle attracts large crowds, and with them elevated security risks such as vandalism and break-ins during the night. Temporary wooden huts and vendor stands were especially vulnerable when the site was left unattended. A new solution was needed to increase reliability, coverage and deterrence.

Recurring, Not Random

Break-ins at the huts and stands came back every year. A pattern that repeats is a pattern somebody is relying on, and previous setups had not broken it.

Gaps at the Edges

Earlier arrangements did not provide sufficient deterrence or coverage, and the vulnerable points around the layout stayed exposed.

Ageing Equipment

The older video tower used in previous years no longer met the required performance. On an event this visible, that is a reputational problem as much as a technical one.

A Fixed Opening Date

A market does not wait for an installation schedule. Whatever went in had to be placed and working before the first stand opened for trade.

What They Built

Sicherheitsmanagement Halle selected a mobile tower platform supported by the TMT trailer, which meant the mast could be positioned quickly at a strategic central point on the market grounds. The team used Dahua and HikVision cameras for their strong price-to-performance ratio. The system runs on standard power, with a methanol fuel cell planned for next year to increase autonomy. Thanks to the mast’s robust construction and the mobility of the trailer, the team achieved full visibility and a strong preventive presence.

A Quiet December

Since its deployment on 18 November the market has experienced calm and secure nights without reported break-ins. The team is careful about the claim: the improvement was not numerically measured, but they confirm a clear advantage over the previous year. Higher perceived safety for organisers and vendors. Noticeably fewer incidents. Faster setup through the TMT trailer. Stable operation for the entire deployment period. Enough that the solution is booked for next year, with a fuel cell upgrade for greater autonomy.
